Volleyball Takes 2nd Place In Orestimba
The Lady Cats played 5 games last Saturday at the 6th Annual Orestimba High School Dig-In Tournament. Each game was best of 3 sets, unlike a regulation high school match which is best of 5 sets.
The Lady Cats opened pool play against big school El Dorado and dropped 2 straight sets. However, they responded well against the other two teams in their pool. They defeated Turlock Christian and Riverbank, both in straight sets.
The Lady Cats then met league rival Le Grand in the semi finals of elimination play. The Lady Cats started the 1st set with a commanding lead, but the Lady Bulldogs came firing back and made it a nail bitter all the way to the end. Junior Rebekah Shepherd would deliver a clutch ace to win the 1st set 25-23. The 2nd set would be even more challenging for the Lady Cats. It was a back-and-forth battle that could not be decided in the regulation 25 points. Having to win by 2 points, the Lady Cats would battle Le Grand to a grueling 31-29 match victory. The team captain, Maddie Romero, kept the team focused through out the tough match.
Waterford then met Volleyball powerhouse Stone Ridge Christian in the final and lost in straight sets.
The Lady Cats are now 4-2 on the season and play next at Hughson for this years foundation game. The game is on 8/29, the game time is 7:00PM. (JV and Frosh do not play in the Foundation game)
